Sightseeing - Southern Guam

Mount Lamlam
Rising 1,334 feet above sea level, Mount Lamlam is Guam's highest point. Measured from its base at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, Mount Lamlam also is the tallest mountain in the world, according to US Geological Surveys. Hikers can reach the summit in about 30 minutes where they are rewarded with panoramic views of Guam's hilly interior stretching out toward the northand a panoramic view of the southern coastline.

Talifak Bridge
During the Spanish era, a coastal road known as El Camino Real was
built between Hagåtña and Umatac. Built in 1785, this bridge in Agat is an
example of the stonework constructed to span the many rivers along the route.

Sella Bay
This tranquil bay was the site of a leper colony during Spanish times. A
Spanish bridge and oven built in the 19th century are located near the
coast, about a 30-minute walk from the main access road.

Merizo Pier Park
Located in Guam's barrier reef, this park is the gateway to Cocos lsland. It is an excellent protected recreational area for water sports of all kinds, as well as the site of a quaint seaside village. Each year, the park is the site of the Malesso Fiestan Tasi (Merizo Water Festival).

Cetti Bay Overlook
From this vantage point is an unparalleled view of Cetti Bay, framed by
coconut palms. The bay forms a deep curve against the backdrop of rugged-
mountains. To the left is Cocos Island and a view of the Merizo barrier reef in the distance.

I Memorias Para I Lalahita
Dedicated in 1971, this park commemorates those men from Guam
who died during the Vietnam War. From this site there is an excellent view of the valleys and mountains surrounding Umatac.

Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad
Built in the early 19th century on the southwestern bluff of Umatac Bay,
this fort is the best preserved of the four originally built in this area. A stone sentry box still stands in the park area, which was considered a perfect spot from which to watch for Spanish galleons or English pirates. From this historic site visitors gain an overview of the village of Umatac. lt is believed that Magellan first made contact with the Chamorro people when he landed here in 1521.

Cocos lsland
This 100-acre island resort surrounded by a clear, turquoise lagoon is just a short ride from Merizo. Cocos offers jet skiing, windsurflng, snorkeling and quiet beaches. Meals, snacks and beverages are available on the island.

Merizo Bell Tower (Kampanayun Malesso)
The tower was built around 1910 under the direction of Father Cristobal de Canals. Included in the National Register of Historic Places, the structure was restored in l981.

Inarajan Village
Steeped in the ways of the past, Inarajan is perhaps the best example of a Spanish-influenced village on Guam. Two-story houses in pastel shades line the narrow, one-way streets winding through the village.

Talofofo Falls
Hiking to this idyllic spot for picnicking and swimming is a favorite weekend activity. This 30-foot drop of the Ugum River cascades into a deep pool framed by steep bluffs and level rock ledges. You can tide a gondola across the river below the falls.  A private property, there is a small entrance fee. The area also is accessible by car.

Yokoi's Cave
In 1944, American military forces invaded the shores of Guam to recapture the island from the Japanese occupying forces. Sergeant Shoichi Yokoi, a diehard Japanese soldier, hid in a man-made cave deep in the jungle until he was discovered by local farmers in 1972. The remarkable tools and implements which Yokoi fashioned for survival are displayed in the Guam Museum in Hagåtña.

Talofofo Bay Beach Park
Facing one of Guam's most picturesque bays, this park is popular with surfers. Talofofo is famous for its blck sand beach.
