Guam’s warm waters are teaming with hundreds of varieties of colorful fish and coral species, a seascape of unimaginable beauty and clarity, dotted with historic wrecks from WWI and WWII. Guam’s open ocean is not only home to many diverse coral and marine life species; it’s also one of the region’s most affordable places to dive.  Along with a number of dives fit for each level of diver – beginning, novice and experts – the tropical waters are warm-year round. Oceans stay about 82-86° Fahrenheit year round, and have up to 150 feet of excellent visibility. Diving environments for beginners and more experienced divers are concentrated more heavily in the south, with the exception of a few accessible dive spots in the northern part of the island.

Guam’s diving environment is rated in the Top 20 percent in the world.  Because of the island’s proximity to the coral triangle, Guam has the richest and most diverse coral reefs in the United States.   More than 300 types of coral, 220 species of benthic marine algae and 950 species of coral reef fish live in the surrounding waters.

Popular snorkeling spots for beginners include the protected bays inside the reef at Tumon Bay, Piti Bomb Hole and Merizo lagoon. Well-equipped dive shops are conveniently located between Tumon and Agat. You can rent everything you need for diving, even hire a qualified dive instructor or guide.

Guam’s underwater world is home to WWI and WWII shipwrecks including the SMS Cormoran, Tokai Maru, and the Kitsugawa Maru — three of the most popular dive sites on Guam.  Other points of interest include the Blue Hole, a natural 300-foot shaft cut into the reef off Orote Point; Gab Gab II; the Crevice, Coral Gardens and Hap’s Reef.
